ST JOSEPH'S SCHOOL

FEILDING

Nau mai, Haere mai - Welcome to St Joseph's School in Feilding, NZ

Saint Joseph’s School is a Catholic kura/school nestled in the heart of Friendly Feilding.  We are an inclusive, nurturing school that supports our tamariki/children to grow in their faith and in their relationship with Christ.  Our kura was established in 1906 by The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Nazareth (Josephites/Black Joeys) to serve the Roman Catholic Parish of Saint Brigid's.  We currently have a roll of around 90 ākonga/students, spanning five classrooms from New Entrants to Year 8.  An experienced and faith filled staff support our tamariki in their learning and individual faith journeys.

We have a strong connection with our parish.  This has been strengthened through our Young Vinnies programme.  Mary MacKillop's phrase, "never see a need without doing something about it," can be seen through service and outreach, which our students provide to our community.  We enjoy sharing celebrations and important events as a school and parish community.

Through a vibrant prayer life, uplifting liturgies, regular weekday masses and a robust religious education curriculum, we endeavour to facilitate a meaningful encounter with Christ.  Catholic Social Teachings are taught and integrated into all we do and they are an integral part of who we are as a community.  Liturgical celebrations and feast days are often shared with the parish, which nurtures and develops our faith and knowledge of our Catholic traditions.

TUMUAKI / PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora!  My name is Anna Christiansen and I am extremely proud to be the principal of Saint Joseph's School.  We would like to welcome your whānau to our kura/school and hope that your time with us will be a happy one.

Our kura's vision is to provide a caring Catholic environment where tamariki encounter Christ and have a worldview that is underpinned by Catholic Social Teaching/Ngā Ākoranga Pāpori KatorikaWe follow the teaching foundations of Saint Mary MacKillop to live our Charism of Inclusion, Nurture and Growth.  Our hope is for ākonga/students to develop a love of learning and a positive sense of self-worth by the time our ākonga leave our kura.

Being a Catholic kura, we ensure our staff are faith filled so they can express their love for Christ with your tamariki.  We provide many opportunities for your tamariki to have an authentic encounter with Christ and making connections to what it means to be a Catholic in today's modern world.

All our staff believe in the importance of developing a child as a whole, especially in this current climate where caring for wellbeing is essential.  We actively use Te Whare Tapa Wha to enhance taha wairua (spiritual wellbeing), taha hinengaro (mental and emotional wellbeing), taha tinana (physical wellbeing), taha whānau (family and social wellbeing), all while making connections to their whenua (land and roots).  By nurturing and strengthening all five dimensions, our tamariki develop a healthy lifestyle and positive outlook on life.

Saint Joseph's School is a very special place, filled with special people.  It is with pleasure that I serve as the tumuaki/principal and welcome you all to our place of learning.
