St Joseph’s School is one of six schools in Feilding. It has a decile rating of 5. It was established to serve the Roman Catholic Parish of St Brigids. Many residents of Feilding commute to the city of Palmerston North for employment. The School is affiliated to the Kauwhata Marae with many Maori families being Ngāti Raukawa. Feilding is a typical mix of socio-economic levels found in most rural centres throughout New Zealand.
Parents have high aspirations for their children. They expect a good education and see this as a means to full employment. Education is highly valued by the School community. Parent support the school through fundraising, providing transport for class trips and helping within classes. There are enthusiastic groups active with the Board of Trustees, P.T.F.A. and whanau ensuring that the school is well supplied with equipment and resources.
The school is very important to St Brigid’s Parish community.
There is a strong desire on behalf of the ex parents of the school to maintain contact with the school through donating to fundraising ventures and attending school functions. The important aspects of school life at St Joseph’s centre on the celebration of important feast days within the year of the Church.
Prayer life of students is a special feature of the school with daily prayers, class masses once a term and frequent liturgies.
